Members say no thanks

UNISON recently held an online consultation to guage the views of Higher Education (HE) members in the light of the 2020-21 pay freeze.

Under the banner of ‘Thanks For Nothing’ the consultation closed on Monday 30 November.

Subsequent to this the HE Service Group Executive (SGE) have met  and considered the results of the consultation. HESGE has decided that a dispute should be lodged with the employers. The intention is that the pay campaign will be escalated and that planning for industrial action may proceed.

Consultation on HE pay freeze

The ‘New JNCHES’ provides the collective bargaining framework within which most UK Universities operate. The employers’ side, UCEA, made it clear during the summer and in subsequent discussions that no uplift to pay spine points was going to be offered in 2020-21.

UNISON’s Higher Education Executive have elected to hold an online consultation to guage members’ opinions nationally, and this will run 03-30 November 2020.
